Professor James Scott MD

Specialty: Cardiovascular & Molecular Medicine and Genetics

Dr. Scott is Professor of Medicine and Cardiovascular Medicine at Imperial College London. He was previously Chief of Academic Medicine and of NHS clinical service, Chief of Cardiology and Head of Molecular Medicine at The Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital. He was founder and first Head of The institute of Genetics and Genomics and founder of the Bioinformatics Centre at Imperial College London. He was a founding member of the Academy of Medical Sciences. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society (The UK National Academy of Sciences). He is distinguished for biomarker research (Notably apolipoprotein B as one of the most powerful cardiovascular disease risk predictors) and for the discovery of the totally novel mechanism of nucleic acid editing, a process concerned with cholesterol transport, antibody formation, protection against HIV and stem cell programming.

Professor Scott has discovered common genetic variation causing dyslipidaemia, heart disease and obesity. Current interests concern genetic and epigenetic mechanisms and systems biology studies in cardiovascular and metabolic disease, and preventive medicine.

Professor Elinor Ben-Menachem MD

Specialty: Neurology & Epilepsy

Dr. Ben-Menachem is Professor of Neurology and Epilepsy at Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She is also the Director of the Epilepsy and Neuropharmacology Clinical Research Program at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the Editor-in-Chief of “Acta Neurologica Scandinavica,” a preeminent global journal in the field of neurology and epilepsy. Professor Ben-Menachem is a member of numerous international medical journals and is a world-renowned expert as well as a frequent speaker at medical conferences around the world. She is the receipient of numerous awards, including the Ambassador for Epilepsy Award from the International League Against Epilepsy and the Service Award from the American Epilepsy Society.

Professor Jonathan Halperin MD

Specialty: Cardiology

Dr. Jonathan Halperin is the Robert and Harriet Heilbrunn Professor of Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and director of Clinical Cardiology Services at the Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. Educated at Columbia University and Boston University School of Medicine, Professor Halperin joined the Mount Sinai faculty in 1980. He played a key role in the formation of the Cardiovascular Institute at The Mount Sinai Medical Center, one of the leading centers for integrated cardiovascular research, education and patient care in the United States, and has served as its associate director since its inception. He was also instrumental in the evolution of the Joseph H. Hazen Cardiology Clinics as a model of ambulatory care, preventive medicine and professional education, and Mount Sinai Heart, which integrates and unifies in-patient cardiovascular services.

Professor Justin Stebbing MD

Specialty: Breast, Gastro-Intestinal and Lung Cancer2014-03 - Justin Stebbing - B&W

Professor Stebbing is Professor of Cancer Medicine and Medical Oncology at Imperial College London. He previously practiced at The Royal Marsden and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals in London as well as the Johns Hopkins Hospital in the US. He trained at Trinity College Oxford, where he gained a triple first class degree.

Professor Stebbing has published over 500 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as The Lancet, The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of Clinical Oncology and Annals of Internal Medicine.

His focus at Imperial is on new therapies in cancer and the systemic management of patients with solid malignancies including a number of new biomarker-based approaches, with an emphasis on circulating tumor cells. His laboratory work is concentrated on new druggable target discovery.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Royal College of Pathologists, and sits on the advisory boards of a number of international cancer committees. He chairs the World Vaccine Congress and is on the editorial board of a number of world leading general medical and cancer journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Oncogene. In 2011, Professor Stebbing’s team published in Nature Medicine the discovery of a new cancer-causing gene which has been implicated in breast, gastro-intestinal, lung and brain tumors. In 2012, the National Institute for Health Research awarded him its first translational research professorship in oncology, aiming to bridge the gap between the laboratory and the patient to ensure therapy is personalised. The focus of this is understanding why some patients with cancer relapse, and developing a program to reverse this and prevent it. With new clinical trials in oncology Professor Stebbing is ideally placed to make massive differences in cancer, to the lives of his patients.

Professor Othmar Schöb MD

Specialty: General Surgery

Professor Schöb is the head of the Visceral and Thoracic Surgery department at Klinik Hirslanden in Zurich. Previously, he was the Medical Director at the Spital Limmattal Hospital in Zurich. He is also a senior lecturer in surgery at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zurich, where his research has focused principally on minimally invasive surgery. During the mid-1990s, he served as a research and clinical fellow of endoscopic surgery studying minimally invasive surgery and technology with Professor Karl A. Zucker at the University of New Mexico.

Professor Andrew Lees MD

Specialty: Neurology & Parkinson’s

Professor Lees is Professor of Neurology at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square and Emeritus Director at the Reta Lila Weston Institute of Neurological Studies, University College London, Institute of Neurology.

He was previously a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and was later appointed Professor of Neurology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square. He is Clinical Director of the Queen Square Brain Bank for Neurological Disorders and Director of the Sara Koe PSP Research Centre. Professor Lees is a Visiting Professor at the University of Liverpool and has close collaborations with a number of Brazilian universities. For his contributions to Brazilian neurology he was elected an overseas member of the Academia Nacional de Medicina and the Academia Brasileira de Neurologica. He has been elected as a Council member of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and received a NIHR Senior Investigators Award.

Professor Lees has achieved international recognition for his work on Parkinson’s disease and abnormal movement disorders and was elected President of the Movement Disorder Society. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Movement Disorders Research Award by the American Academy of Neurology and the German Society of Neurology’s Dingebauer Prize for outstanding scientific attainment in the field of Parkinson’s disease and Neurodegenerative Disorders. He has also served as the co-editor in chief of the Movement Disorders Journal.

Professor Morton Coleman MD

Specialty: Oncology

Dr. Morton Coleman has been the Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University since 1986 and since 1997 he has been the director of the Center for Lymphoma and Myeloma in the Division of Hematology–Oncology at New York Presbyterian Hospital–Cornell Medical Center. Professor Coleman is also the Chairman of the medical advisory board of the Lymphoma Research Foundation and serves on the executive committees of the board of directors and the scientific advisory board. He also serves on the scientific review boards of the International Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation, the Lymphoma Research Foundation and the Lymphoma Foundation.

He serves as Chairman of the Fund for Blood and Cancer Research, has served on or chaired a number of committees or subcommittees of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, is or was an associate editor of the journals, “Cancer Investigation”, “Acta Haematologica”, and “Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukemia”, and is the past president of the New York Cancer Society.

Professor Coleman has served as the chairman, consultant or member reviewer for many scientific committees and journals, particularly in the areas of lymphoma, myeloma, and Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia.  He has also served on a number of review committees of the National Cancer Institute among other distinguished appointments. He has authored over 400 publications in the fields of blood cancers, and has been designated one of the “Best Doctors in America.”

Professor Peter Lim Huat Chye MD

Specialty: Urology & Andrology

Dr. Peter Lim Huat Chye is a senior consultant urologist at the Andrology, Urology & Continence Centre of Gleneagles Hospital and a visiting consultant at the Department of Urology, Changi General Hospital, Singapore. He is also an honorary professor of urology & andrology of the Hang Tuah Naval Medical School in Indonesia. Previously, Dr. Lim served as a visiting consultant at the National University Hospital of Singapore and is the national representative for Singapore in the Asia-Pacific Society for impotence research. He has also served as member of the Board of Urology of the Academy of Medicine and a member of the Board of Advisors on Urology to Singapore’s Minister of Health.

Professor Tracy Glauser MD

Specialty: Pediatrics

Dr. Tracy Glauser is Professor of Pediatrics, Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and Co-Director of the Genetic Pharmacology Service at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Glauser received his medical degree, cum laude, from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, and fellowship in child neurology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Professor Glauser completed a National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke research fellowship in pediatric neurology and was a fellow in epilepsy and electroencephalography at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. He has authored numerous articles, been involved with the development of various evidence-based guidelines about epilepsy therapy and given lectures throughout the world. Professor Glauser’s fields of expertise are pediatric neurology, pediatric epilepsy, clinical pharmacology, and pharmacogenetics.

Dr. Tomas Norlindh MD

Specialty: Radiology

Dr. Norlindh is the former Department Head of the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Clinic at Spital Limmattal hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Norlindh was also a member of the National Swiss board responsible for the postgraduate education of Swiss radiologists. Prior to his position at Spital Limmattal, Dr. Norlindh served as a senior consultant to the Radiology Department at the Hospital of Winterthur, Switzerland. Dr. Norlindh is a member of the Swiss Society of Radiology, the Swedish Society of Radiology and the European Society of Radiology.

Dr. Philipp Meyer MD

Specialty: Orthopaedic Surgery

Dr. Meyer is a specialist in orthopedic surgery and traumatology at the Orthopedics Clinic at Hirslanden Private Clinic in Lucerne, Switzerland. His expertise lies in shoulder and elbow surgeries and general trauma surgery for upper and lower extremities. Dr. Meyer previously served as the chief orthopedist at a regional hospital in Switzerland. He was educated at various medical schools in Zurich and is a member of the Swiss Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons (SGOT-SSOT) as well as the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. He is also the current president of the Commission for Approval of Continuing Medical Education at SGOT-SSOT.

Associate Professor Chouwen Zhu MD

Specialty: Gastroenterology

Dr. Zhu is an associate professor of gastroenterology at the Department of Internal Medicine and Endoscopic Center at Zhong Shan Hospital, the tertiary-care general hospital affiliated with Shanghai Medical University (now merged with Fudan University), Shanghai, China. He also serves as a faculty member at Shanghai Medical University, lecturing in internal medicine, including gastroenterology and hepatology, diagnosis, infectious diseases, clinical epidemiology and evidence-based medicine. Dr. Zhu also has a master of science degree in clinical epidemiology and health development from the Faculty of Medicine and Graduate School of Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand.
