Alivia’s UK Managing Director – My Story
A personal letter from Alivia’s U.K Managing Director, Richard Kensett
My dad passing from Cancer inspires me to help others
I have a deep set emotional connection with what we are trying to achieve here at Alivia Swiss Health, and it is as a result of a personal experience which happened in my family a few years ago.
Four years ago, my dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer. It’s fair to say it shook my world, it shook my family’s world as well.
We didn’t know where to turn or what to think. Although his first line of treatment was actually fairly successful, which we definitely still grateful for, unfortunately after two and a half years he lost his fight.
Losing someone so close, so important in your life is always going to be a difficult moment, for anybody. For my mum, my brother and I, it was no different. Looking back, you always want to feel you have done absolutely everything you can to help your loved ones or whoever it is that you know that is sick. That is all you can do really.
Unfortunately, we didn’t know about Alivia at the time, and I think it might have made a difference having someone on our side to guide us. There are options that are available, treatment options for various types of cancer, that maybe you might not know about.
Medical science is moving so quickly and there are sometimes treatment and diagnostic options outside of the NHS that can help make a treatment schedule more personalised and therefore hopefully more effective. In my view, it is always worth a second opinion, just to get that piece of mind.
This experience drives me forward to make me want to achieve with Alivia what I couldn’t achieve with my dad.
Alivia can help people get into the right hospital or clinic, to find the right doctor and hopefully find the right treatment that could make a difference to their loved ones life.
