Challenging Conventional Healthcare

Alivia is positioned as a disruptive influence on the healthcare sector and this is because of the way we are challenging society’s views on how people are treated when diagnosed with a serious condition.

Problem 1: How We Choose a Physician

The first way Alivia is challenging healthcare is through the way people choose their consulting physician when presented with a serious disease or Illness. The thing is, they don’t choose. They get allocated one, normally based on their personal GP’s recommendation, or the recommendation of a friend or family member.

Choosing the specialist who you entrust with your life should not be this simple.
Can you think of any other industry where you would be so flippant over choosing a specialist?

If you were buying a new TV you would probably check out a few shops, several reviews and do full due diligence to be sure the TV was correct for your lounge.

Consumers still can’t do this for medicine because the information is not readily available.
It would be like trying to buy a TV without knowing whether you have electricity in the house, or if the TV would be too big for your room, or if it would hook up to your satellite/cable subscription package.

Using this example for medicine, you’re just going ahead and buying a TV without even thinking about whether you know all that information, just assuming that it’s going to all work out in the end. Well it might, but it might not. Are you sure you want to take the chance?

Solution: Ask Alivia

Alivia exists to do your due diligence for you. We take your medical files and analyse them in detail to then scour the world of medicine to find the most appropriate and best placed doctor specific to you and specific to your illness.

Once the doctor/specialist has done his/her bit, we’ll then do the same with treatment options. In effect, we’re measuring the size of your room, measuring the TV, checking the contrast ratio is perfect for the type of TV you like to watch whilst also making sure you’re able to watch all your satellite TV shows in perfect HD.

Problem 2: Conventional Treatment Methods

Throughout history the practice of medicine has largely been reactive. Our system is designed to wait until patients are diagnosed with diseases and then try to treat or cure them. The drugs and treatments devised for these diseases are tested on broad populations and are prescribed using statistical averages. This means, your treatment is based on how others in the same age or demographic reacted to this type of treatment in the past. Seems logical, right?

Wrong. Because we still don’t fully understand the genetic and environmental factors that cause major diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s and diabetes, our efforts to treat these diseases are often imprecise, unpredictable and ineffective. That’s why they work for some patients but not for many others, due to genetic differences among the population. On average, any given prescription drug now on the market for the above diseases only works for half of those who take it.

Solution: Personalised Medicine

Personalised medicine is based on the notion that we as humans are all different from one another. As we explain in greater length here [ADD HYPERLINK], personalised medicine, because it is based on each patient’s unique genetic makeup, is beginning to overcome the limitations of traditional medicine.
